Christianity to the Life: The Imitation of Christ
By Cotton Mather | Edited by Garnetta Sweeney Smith | Foreword by Joseph C. Harrod
Mather asserts in this timeless sermon is that it is not enough to simply say that you are a Christian; there must be evidence seen in the manner by which Christian lives his life. Mather refers to this as the “walk of a Christian” which is accomplished by imitating the “walk” of Jesus Christ.
This sermon is divided into two parts; first, the means by which we imitate Christ and secondly, the areas in which we are to pursue the imitation of Christ. More than a self-help book of steps to attain the walk of a Christian, Mather instructs the reader in how Christ is our example and the virtues, or character qualities that should be developed in the believer as the walk of the Lord Jesus Christ is imitated.
